IO is an official app developed by the Italian government, designed to give citizens easy access to public services These include bill payments, document viewing and communications with local and national administrations.

Analysis

To thoroughly evaluate the application, we conducted a heuristic analysis. This helped identify key usability issues and provided deeper insight into areas for improvement.

Problems

Through desk and fields research we gathered three main issues that our platform should've addressed.

Lack of representation

The controls are not often well integrated within the vehicle and instrument cluster. Some buttons lack functions and the actions performed on the wheel are not reflected on the instrument cluster.

Enhance participation

Vehicle graphics are often counterintuitive and can take some time to learn. Overly complex visuals and effects can distract the driver and affect focus.

Ensure engagement

Most vehicles analysed lack the possibility to customise the view of the instrument cluster and the controls on the steering wheel.

Problems

With the heuristic evaluation we were able to define a set of issues present in the app.

Consistency

Users should not have to wonder whether different words, situations, or actions mean the same thing.

Efficiency

The content displayed are often complex and are do not ease the user tasks.

Documentation

The suppor sections are not extremely useful and often display information in a heavy way.

Wireframes

The creation of wireframes was used to define the application elements. Moreover it allowed us to test these with users using Maze in order to identify any friction. We also conducted premo test sessions with users to understand their sentiment towards the current application and our redesigned version.

Hi-fi

After having defined and iteratively improved the wireframes it was time to create high fidelity prototypes for the reviewed IO app.

In order to achieve a coherent look we decided to implement the Designers Italia design system.
